A 'First' For Montclair: Salon And Café Open Shared Location

MONTCLAIR, NJ — The coronavirus pandemic isn’t slowing down the grand opening of the first “connected salon and café” in Montclair.

Boho Hair Salon and Boca Life Cafe | Anechó Coffee will be sharing customers – and spaces – by connecting their separate businesses with a doorway at 111-113 Watchung Avenue.

Here’s how the concept came to be, according to a company news release:

“With the original Boho Hair Salon flourishing in Asbury Park, owners Sally and Albie Monterrosa wanted to open a second, reimagined model of their current business with an added cafe experience. When the couple met Nikki and Brad Outlaw, owners of their own mobile coffee cart, Anechó Coffee, it was the perfect opportunity to transform their idea into a reality.”

The owners said they are keeping their own individual flair while combining efforts.

“I wanted the cafe and salon to embody kindness, community, and harmony” Sally Monterrosa said. “We teamed up with designer Joanna Nollet of Faye And Renee to incorporate textures and colors that are inviting and memorable to transcend our customers to another place.”

“I wanted to take the ordinary cafe items we all know and love, and put a twist on them to elevate the experience” Nikki Outlaw said.

The companies will be launching their joint effort with an event on Saturday, Sept. 19 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Masks and social distancing will be required.

The party will feature the following:

  • A free, walk up dry styling station for the first 2 hours of the event.

  • Lolita Vintage (https://shoplolitavintage.com/), a female owned pop-up shop will be selling a beautiful selection of sustainable, vintage clothing and accessories out of their airstream truck, parked right outside of the cafe and salon.

  • Handcrafted jewelry for sale by designer “West Village Tribe” (https://www.westvillagetribe.com)

  • The cafe’s full food and drink menu will be available, with the addition of an organic, gourmet, cotton candy station

A portion of the proceeds from the event will be donated to Montclair Emergency Services for the Homeless (MESH).
