PORTSMOUTH — On Sunday, Dec. 31, the Seacoast will say farewell to 2023 and greet 2024 with the celebration of First Night Portsmouth. As is tradition with all Pro Portsmouth events, artists are invited to submit their work for consideration to become the logo for First Night Portsmouth 2024.

Deadline for entries: Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2023

Medium/size/details:

  • Graphic design, painting (watercolor, oils, etc.) mixed are fine – the key factor: can we successfully scan your work in order to create the button, merchandise, website, etc.

  • Scannable-sized pieces (for us, 8.5” x 11”)

  • Bold colors (maximum 6) work well

Possible ideas/ themes for the image: Celebration; Holidays/Winter; The Seacoast of New Hampshire; Pro Portsmouth standard of “Arts, Culture, History, Community”

Prizes: Portsmouth 2024 merchandise, social media, website, and collateral that Pro Portsmouth produces for the event.

Tickets on sale for Lydia’s House of Hope gala

SOMERSWORTH — Lydia's House of Hope's sixth annual Night of Hope & New Beginnings Gala will be held at LaBelle Winery on Route 111 in Derry Friday, Dec. 22 from 5 to 10 p.m.

The menu will feature tableside charcuterie and passed appetizers, entree and desserts. There will be a silent auction and a "fund-a-need"' " Christmas tree. Theresa Tozier and graduates will make presentations, and there will be a live auction and music. Emcee is broadcaster Mark Ericson.

UNH President James Dean to speak to retirement association

DURHAM — University of New Hampshire President James Dean will discuss the challenges facing higher education as the guest speaker for the Active Retirement Association meeting Monday, Oct. 16, from 2 to 3:30 p.m., at the Durham Evangelical Church (lower level), 114 Dover Road (Route 108). This free event is open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. You are encouraged to bring non-perishable foods and personal care items to support area food pantries. Cash donations will be accepted.
