First 'no-quarantine' flights land in Australia
There were teary-eyed reunions at Sydney Airport for the first time in months on Friday (October 16).
It marked the first day of 'no-quarantine' flights between New Zealand and Australia, part of a travel bubble between the two countries.
Tarem Kowalski was finally reunited with her partner, Jayden Guest.
"Really difficult, just being, just totally unsure about what's going to happen, yeah it's been quite hard."
Authorities say travellers on these approved flights won't be required to quarantine in Sydney and can travel in limited parts of the country without staying put for two weeks.
Friday also meant the first day on the job in half a year for some airline staff.
"It has been six months and it's quite eerie coming into the airport here and we do actually have a couple of cabin crew on today's flight that have been able to work now because of this flight."
But this travel bubble is not yet reciprocal.
Case numbers are falling in Australia but New Zealand is requiring travellers from there to quarantine for two weeks-at a cost of over two thousand U.S. dollars a head.
Air New Zealand said that around 90 percent of those travelling on Friday were only booked to travel one way.
