First Responders Salute Marine Killed in Afghanistan as Funeral Procession Travels to New York
A funeral procession carrying the remains of Staff Sergeant Christopher Slutman, a US Marine and New York firefighter killed by a roadside explosive in Afghanistan, traveled to New York on Monday, April 21.
The procession, which started at Dover Air Force Base in Delaware, traveled north on I-95 to New York, where a funeral was planned for Friday.
Slutman was killed after a roadside bomb exploded near Bagram Air Base in Afghanistan on April 8. Before his tour of duty in Afghanistan, he served with New York Fire Department’s Engine 46 Ladder 27 in the Bronx.
