First ship under Grain from Ukraine initiative arrives in Ethiopia

A second vessel with 30,000 tonnes of wheat, which is being loaded at the Ukrainian port of Chornomorsk, is to depart for Ethiopia next week.

A third ship will be loaded in the port of Odesa. It will deliver 25,000 tons of products to Somalia.

In total, under the program, Ukraine plans to send more than 60 vessels to Ethiopia, Sudan, South Sudan, Somalia, Congo, Kenya, Yemen, and other developing nations.

The Grain from Ukraine initiative is dedicated to the issue of global food security and aims to launch the delivery of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea corridor to developing countries, commemorating 90 years since the Holodomor. The Government of Ukraine has allocated UAH 900 million ($24.5 million) to purchase corn for poor countries in Asia and Africa. The initiative stipulates for shipments to Sudan, Yemen, Kenya, and Nigeria, among others.
