First snow of 2023-2024 winter measured at the Central Sierra Snow Lab

Staff at the UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab (CSSL) recorded the first measurable snowfall of the 2022-2023 winter on Thursday morning. The 24-hour total was marked at 3.9 inches. All of that fell during the day on Wednesday. The CSSL site, located near Donner Summit, is one of few Sierra locations with a long and robust record of snowfall measurements. Data has been consistently recorded at the site since 1957.
