First snow of the season on tap for Wednesday

Dec. 7—The state will experience its first widespread snow of the season Wednesday.

Throughout the state, residents can expect to receive 1 to 2 inches of snow beginning Wednesday evening, said National Weather Service Meteorologist Torry Gaucher.

While temperatures are in the mid 30s during the day there may be rain, but as temperatures drop below freezing in the evening, snow will begin to fall, Gaucher said.

He said the limited amount of snow shouldn't have a high impact. It could cause minor disruptions to the evening commute as drivers reacquaint themselves with driving in the snow.

Temperatures are expected to drop into the 20s overnight Wednesday, so any wet and untreated areas could freeze, Gaucher said.

Thursday should be quiet, weather-wise, Gaucher said. Temperatures will be in the upper 30s to 40, and partial sunshine is possible.

Friday is set to begin another warming trend, and temperatures should reach the mid 40s. Then Saturday looks to be much warmer than usual, with temperatures reaching almost 60, Gaucher said.

He said temperatures reached 58 degrees on Monday, which was about 14 degrees warmer than usual, but not near any records.

The record warm temperature for Dec. 6 goes back to 2001, when it was 74 degrees, Gaucher said.
