First snowfall of the season results in multiple Kentucky school closings, delays

After the first snowfall of the season, several Kentucky school districts closed or delayed school on Wednesday.

Bourbon County Public Schools, which adjoins Fayette County, were closed Wednesday.

“There was a thin layer of ice on some of our heavily traveled roads. Many cars ... slid off the road,” said Bourbon Superintendent Amy Baker.

Fleming County Schools were also closed Wednesday due to inclement weather, district officials said on the website.

“This will be a traditional snow day for students and staff,” a post said.

Lewis County also decided on a traditional snow day.

WKYT reported that Carter County Schools had closed, that Mason and Nicholas County schools were having non-traditional instruction days and that Robertson, Harrison, and Owen County schools were delaying the start of the school day.

WKYT Chief Meteorologist Chris Bailey reported that snow in Eastern and Central Kentucky was supposed to wind down Wednesday morning. Light accumulation was possible.
