First sticking snow storm of the season causes accidents all over Somerset County

A few inches of wet and slushy snow caused havoc on roadways Tuesday afternoon, leading to multiple accidents throughout the county.

Somerset County 911 dispatchers said they were inundated with emergency calls from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesday because of the snow.

Shortly before the storm, at 12:22 p.m., Meyersdale and Wellersburg fire departments, Meyersdale EMS and state police responded to a vehicle accident near 3404 Cumberland Highway, Meyersdale.

Afterward, the National Weather Service issued a severe weather warning for all of central Pennsylvania.

The National Weather Service forecast more snow will fly on Thursday, with up to 1 inch of new snow accumulation.

Wind gusts as high as 30 mph are also in the forecast, which will blow the new snow across roadways.

AccuWeather forecast a much larger storm with up to 8 inches in some places by the end of the day, Thursday.

Weather.com predicts the best chance for snow will be closer to the end of the month, on Saturday, Nov. 26 and Tuesday, Nov. 29.
