The first trailer for the Mean Girls musical movie has finally arrived after Taylor Swift fans got a sneak peek at Eras Tour movie screenings last month.

The trailer was previously caught on camera by fans as they saw it in cinemas but has now officially been released online.

Having dropped on a Wednesday (November 8), the trailer is of course filled with pink, sees the return of the Burn Book and shares a glimpse at the iconic Christmas talent show dance.

The trailer begins by stating "some things change but plastic is forever", before Reneé Rapp enters as the infamous mean girl Regina George.

Directed by Arturo Perez Jr and Samantha Jayne, the new movie sees Tina Fey return to screenwrite the musical and reprise her on-screen role as maths teacher Ms Norbury.

Making a Mean Girls comeback as well is Tim Meadows, who returns as Principal Duvall.

The film also stars Angourie Rice, Auliʻi Cravalho, Jaquel Spivey, Bebe Wood, and Avantika Vandanapu.

The Office's Jenna Fischer will be playing Cady's mother Mrs Heron, with Busy Philipps taking the role of Regina's mother Mrs George (who was previously played by Amy Poehler). Mad Men's Jon Hamm will be playing Coach Carr.

Tina Fey confirmed her involvement in the musical movie during an appearance on Late Night with Seth Meyers earlier this year, explaining how the story will transition back to the screen after its successful Broadway stint.

"The songs are sounding really more kinda pop," she revealed. "In Broadway, everything has to play to the back of the house and in movies everything can come back in and things can play really intimately."

The new trailer comes after the news that the Mean Girls musical will be coming to London's West End in 2024. The on-stage adaptation will debut at the Savoy Theatre in June next year, with tickets now on sale.

The original Mean Girls film can be streamed free for Prime Video subscribers. The movie version of the musical is due to be released on January 12, 2024.
