The first trailer for 57 Seconds, a time-bending sci-fi thriller starring Morgan Freeman and Josh Hutcherson, has been released.

The film, which is directed by Rusty Cundieff, follows computer blogger Franklin Fox (Hutcherson), who scores a career-defining interview with technology mogul Anton Burrell (Freeman).

After managing to foil an attempted attack on Burrell, Franklin discovers a curious ring that permits its wearer to travel 57 seconds into the past.

It looks like fun and games at first, with the trailer (which you can watch above) showing Franklin using the ring to cheat and win big at the casino.

But, after some encouragement from Burrell, Franklin sets out to destroy the pharmaceutical company responsible for his twin sister’s death.

"Today we have tools at our fingertips that allow us to respond to events at the moment, short-circuiting our time to be thoughtful and consider the consequences," Cundieff explained when the project was first announced.

"57 Seconds examines how emotions influence the innate human desire to solve things quickly via technology, be it a gun, pill or compute."

Shortly after the release of 57 Seconds in the US this September, fans will also be able to watch Hutcherson in Emma Tammi's anticipated adaptation of Five Nights at Freddy's.

Based on Scott Cawthon's popular video game series of the same name, the film follows a troubled security guard as he begins working at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza.

57 Seconds will be released in select cinemas in the US on September 29. A UK release is yet to be announced.

Five Nights at Freddy's will be released in cinemas and on Peacock on October 27.
