Schitt's Creek actress Emily Hampshire deals with an evil parasite in the first trailer for Appendage.

Premiering Monday, October 2 on the US streaming service Hulu – a UK date is yet to be confirmed but a same-day Disney+ release could be a possibility – the movie melds the world of high fashion with body horror, as Hadley Robinson's designer Hannah becomes a host for something sinister.

The trailer shows Hampshire in the role of Claudia, who seems more welcoming of the creature she's hosting. The two get to know each other through a support group, and Claudia tells Hannah that becoming a host "was the best thing that ever happened to me".

Elsewhere on Hampshire's horizon is director Caitlin Cronenberg's first feature Humane, which wrapped filming last year and has been described as an environmental thriller.

Taking place several months after a dystopian future disaster caused world leaders to take drastic action in decreasing the global population, the movie is framed as 'a day in the life' of one wealthy family.

"Each and every day on set felt like a gift and I feel truly blessed to have worked with such remarkable talents, both in front of and behind the camera," commented Cronenberg.

"I cannot wait to share this film with the world."

Hampshire is of course most famous for playing Stevie Budd in Schitt's Creek.

Discussing what she took from the set of the comedy, she told The Drew Barrymore Show that "everyone was allowed to take an outfit because all of the outfits were very expensive designer brands". She joked that because she bought most of Stevie's outfits from home, she didn't think that was fair.

"So, I took the giant stag painting behind Stevie's desk and I also took, well... that's just the beginning," she added before producing several props including Stevie's name tag, a hotel keychain, the book Fast Forward to Success – Business the Johnny Rose Way, and a playbill for Cabaret featuring a vintage snap of Moira Rose.

Appendage comes to Hulu on October 2.
