First wintry system moves through area Tuesday, cold rain, snow showers expected

The first of several wintry systems will move through Tuesday bringing a cold rain for some and snow showers for others.

Toss the umbrella in your bag when you head out and plan for wet weather after lunch. Snow will mix in by late afternoon, especially north and east of Pittsburgh where a couple of inches will be possible. Temperatures will be warm enough for any snow to melt around the city.

The next system will stir up snow showers Wednesday and colder temperatures could mean a coating in spots and the risk of slick spots as far south as Pittsburgh. Widespread travel problems are not expected, but you’ll want to check the forecast and watch bridges and overpasses, especially after sunset.
