Fiscal court approves yearly agreement renewals

Oct. 5—Yearly renewal agreements with various agencies are required for approval by county governments, and Laurel County Fiscal Court approved those at last Thursday's bi-monthly meeting.

Those included the Laurel County Emergency Management Alerting Authority & Notification Plan, the updated Section 8 Housing Authority payment and a pauper's burial.

Emergency Management Director David Williams said the agreement is based on a year-to-year basis and that no real changes were noted in this year's agreement.

Magistrates did approve appointing Jim Lewis and Kelly Burton as representatives for Laurel County to the First Frontier Appalachian Trail Authority.

Two roads were also on the agenda.

By unanimous vote, magistrates approved a service turnaround on VCR Lane and a 253-foot extension to Abbey Lane. That roadway was initially approved for 253 feet but Laurel County Judge Executive David Westerfield said the roadway needed to extend an additional 957 feet. That brings the length of that roadway to 1,210 total feet.

The Laurel County Fiscal Court meets the second Monday of each month at 8:45 a.m. and on the fourth Thursday of the month at 9 a.m. in the 3rd Floor meeting room in the Laurel County Courthouse.
