Fish die and crops wither in Chinese drought

STORY: In the southern coastal city of Zhuhai, dead sea bass floated at a farm as a worker retrieved them. Losses incurred by fish farmers due to high temperatures exceeded 100 million yuan ($14.67 million) according to CCTV.

Around the central province of Hubei, fire engines were seen driving into drought-hit villages to distribute water to residents and irrigate withering crops.

According to emergency ministry data, high temperatures in July alone caused direct economic losses of 2.73 billion yuan ($400 million), affecting 5.5 million people and 457,500 hectares of land.
