Fish fry, other events coming up to bolster Gospel Association

Jul. 24—HENDERSON — The N.C. Gospel Association is hosting several community events throughout the remainder of the summer.

The Gospel Association will be hosting a fish fry on Saturday, July 31. The fish fry will be held at the former Saveway parking lot on Andrews Avenue from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The menu includes pork chops, trout, string beans, potato salad and desserts. The fish fry is open to all, and the proceeds will go towards the gospel association's annual Benefits Youth Block Party.

The Benefits Youth Block Party itself is on Sept. 18 and will be held at Superior Chrysler on U.S. 158. There will be games, live music featuring various gospel artists, food, and more. The block party is free to all.

"The block party is something to give back to the kids, where they can fellowship," said Bill Wiggins, founder of the N.C. Gospel Association. "It's for black kids, white kids, all kids, bringing the community together. We don't do enough of that."

The Gospel Association is also hosting the Summer Gospel Fest on Aug. 14 at Vance-Granville Community College. It will feature artists David Hargrove and Co., The Supreme Angels, Bishop A.L. Harrison and the Gospel Tones, The Virginia Southernaires, The Mighty Brooklyn Allstars, The Mighty Pilgrim Harmonies, and The Souls Stirrers. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door, doors open at 5 p.m., and the program starts at 6 p.m. Food and refreshments will be available.

The N.C. Gospel Association's mission is to serve as a voice in the Christian gospel industry for Vance, Granville, Durham, Franklin and Wake Counties, as well as surrounding areas in North Carolina.

It also seeks to assist in professionally arranged concerts, and to provide an atmosphere in which artists, songwriters, media personalities, retailers, promoters, churches, and other industry leaders can coordinate efforts for humanitarian service and benefit the industry while remaining true to the call of communicating the gospel message worldwide.
