Fish habitats placed in Lake Nasworthy, attracting more fish to pier

Forty fish habitats were placed in Lake Nasworthy and are expected to attract more fish to the new pier.

The habitats were placed on Saturday, Nov. 11 within 10 feet of the new fishing pier on all sides. The pier was opened in late June 2023 next to the former Nature Center at 2160 Mary E. Lee Road.

The habitats were a joint project between the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Lake Nasworthy Homeowners Association (LNHOA), according to a Facebook post.

"These MossBack Fish Habitats will provide protection for fish and fry," the post stated. "In turn, attracting more fish to the new fishing pier."

The habitats were sunk close enough to the pier so that people could fish over the top of them.

"The State receives funds from the sale of Bass Conservation License Plates," according to the post. "Those funds are then shared among several departments which have to compete for them. Our local TPWD was able to secure the funding because the LNHOA matched funds. TPWD was appreciative of our partnership in this project both financially and with the volunteer manpower to assemble and place the habitats."

Volunteers and helpers included Ken Taylor, Diana Everett, Ric Abbott, Rick Ellis, Ray McKim, Robin Taylor, Lynn Wright, John Ingle and Blake Thornton.
