Fisherman Rescues Boy From Drifting Ice in Kiev

A recreational fisherman used his fishing rod to rescue a boy who was trapped on a drifting ice floe on the Desenka River in Kiev, Ukraine, on March 21.

The video shows Richard Gorda, assisted by a friend, using a fishing line to reel the boy back to safety from the shore. The boy was reportedly floating on the ice sheet around 20 meters away from the shore.

Local media reported the two men were about to end their fishing trip when they were approached by a passerby who asked if they had a boat after spotting the boy on the ice floe. Emergency services were called but arrived after the boy was safely brought to shore.

Gorda told Storyful the entire operation lasted approximately eight minutes and the boy went home after the ordeal. Credit: Richard Gorda via Storyful
