Startup electric vehicle (EV) maker Fisker (FSR) announced a major milestone today, passing 50,000 reservations for its first vehicle, the Fisker Ocean SUV.

The base model, named the Ocean Sport, will start at $37,499 before any government incentives, and will be built in a “carbon-neutral factory” in Austria operated by manufacturing partner Magna International, starting on Nov. 17, 2022.

The Ocean Sport will feature a single electric motor producing 275 horsepower through a front-wheel drive system, with a range of around 250 miles. The Ocean will also come in higher end trims levels like the Ocean Ultra, Ocean Extreme, and Ocean One that will feature dual electric motors and 550 horsepower. Fisker says the dual motor Ocean variants will have around 350 miles or range.

Fisker also announced its second vehicle, the cheaper PEAR (short for “Personal Electric Automotive Revolution”) SUV, crossed 3,200 reservations. The company also released a teaser image of the interior of this smaller EV SUV.

“The impressive number of reservations for the Fisker Ocean proves there’s huge interest in our brand and in electric vehicles,” CEO Henrik Fisker said in a statement. “The over 3,200 reservations already for the Fisker PEAR indicate this revolutionary mobility device, designed for city dwellers, demonstrates customers are ready for Fisker to deliver the 21st century’s most innovative vehicle.”

The PEAR notched these 3,200 reservations despite the car’s exterior only being teased a few weeks ago. Design-wise the company says the PEAR will feature what the company calls a “Houdini” trunk for its rear cargo door and have a lower beltline offering lower side window visibility, plus a large “wraparound windscreen” common in other EVs with a cabin-forward design.

Fisker says the PEAR will start at $29,900 before any tax credits or incentives, and the SUV will be built by its other manufacturing partner, Foxconn, at its new plant in Ohio. The PEAR is slated to debut in the second half of 2023, with production of the vehicle beginning in 2024.

Fisker stock is trading slightly higher today in midday trade.
