New fitness center opens in Hudson

Nov. 17—HUDSON — The first fitness center in the town of Hudson is now open.

Angela Coffey and her husband, Roger Coffey, are excited to announce the opening of their new gym and fitness center, Legit Fitness, now located at 3136 Hickory Blvd., Hudson.

Angela is not originally from here, but she has called Caldwell County her home for the past 23 years. Roger has lived in Collettsville his whole life. The two actually met at a gym and were married last year. Now, they are finally achieving their dreams of owning their own gym.

"I started working out about 10 years ago in my living room doing P90X and things just to be healthier, and then I got to where that wasn't challenging me anymore, so I started going to the gym," said Angela. "I just love the body building, the healthy lifestyle; the community it gives you, the friends you make. We have never been 100% satisfied with places we go to to work out, and that was always a goal. When we met, we had a similar goal in mind. We got married last year, and then we decided to take on this adventure."

Angela is also a personal trainer and nutrition coach available to instruct people on how to use the equipment, help them plan an appropriate workout, and give them guidance on healthy eating habits.

"We have background in the fitness industry," she said. "We love our community, and we want people to be healthier and have a place they can come to that's a third space environment outside of work and home where they can be themselves and focus on themselves, even if it's just for a short period of time. We really care about the people who are in here."

Angela and Roger plan to give back to the community, as well, particularly children in the community who might not have the same opportunities afforded to other children.

"We're really about our hometown," said Angela. "We've already been over at the Robin's Nest to talk to them about some possible fundraisers and donations."

Legit Fitness offers members 24/7 access to the facility with a keycard. The spacious gym area has a variety of equipment for a number of different types of workouts, including bodybuilding, power lifting, CrossFit, and more. There are multiple group fitness classes in the evenings, such as dancing, Zumba, and Mix Fit TNT. In the back, in the group fitness room, there are multiple sizes of lighter dumbbells, jump ropes, and yoga mats.

"That way the women who aren't comfortable working out in front of the men can go back there, shut the doors, and do their own little workout," Angela explained.

Legit Fitness also has tanning beds and a "progress room" with mirrors all around and adjustable lighting to allow guests the right space for a perfect selfie to showcase the progress they've made.

Additionally, they offer several different items that are available for purchase even by non-members. There are supplements like multi-vitamins, BCAAs, protein powder, essential aminos, pre-workouts, creatine, hair, skin, and nail vitamins, and more; a smoothie bar with 47 different options; and pre-packaged, 100% clean meals.

Legit Fitness has multiple membership options: The standard membership package, with 24-hour access and use of the locker room and the whole gym, is $42 a month. The standard membership with additional access to either the tanning beds or group classes is $47 a month. The premium membership package, which includes tanning and classes, is $52 a month.

"Compared to other gyms, for what we have to offer, these are exceptionally well-priced," said Angela. "We want to show the community that we're trying to start something real here and trying to be fair with the clients."

They also have a "55 and up" and "hero" membership package for only $35 a month.

"Hero status is military, police officers, EMT, firefighters, and veterans, and then ages 55 and up," said Angela.

The gym is staffed Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. There will be no staff on Sundays or major holidays.

"I want people to be able to spend time with their families, go to church, get caught up with housework," Angela said. "I think that's very important."
