LANSING — HOTWORX, a national fitness studio chain that offers infrared sauna workouts, will open a location in Lansing this fall.

Franchise owner Tony Lasky, who owns HOTWORX studios in West Bloomfield and Ann Arbor, said the chain is known for its "three-dimensional workouts" inside saunas that use infrared heat.

"I just totally believe in how it helps you sleep, helps your muscles recuperate," said Lasky, who hopes to open the studio by mid-to-late November.

The studio will occupy a 2,200-square-foot space on the first floor of SkyVue apartments on Michigan Avenue near Frandor.

HOTWORX will occupy one of two retail spaces on the lower level of Skyvue, said Samantha Le, part of the Martin Retail Brokerage Team, which represents the property. An adjacent 1,945-square-foot space remains unoccupied, she said.

"We're searching for a good complementing co-tenant right now," Le said. "We would love to get a smoothie shop, juice shop, something health-focused."

Infrared sauna workouts available 24 hours per day

When HOTWORX opens at 3165 E. Michigan Ave. it will offer a variety of classes, including cycle and rowing workouts, yoga, barre and Pilates. The studio will offer beginner and advanced classes inside one of the studio's nine saunas, which fit up to three people each.

The classes are conducted virtually on screens inside each sauna, which use infrared heat, Lasky said.

"The infrared is spaced out evenly so you're not going further than 3 feet from it," he said. "We have two restrooms and one has a full shower."

The studio will be staffed from late morning to approximately 8 p.m., but the facility will be open to users 24 hours a day, Lasky said.

"What they'll get is an access code," he said. "That'll be on their phone which will unlock the door for them to go in."

Customers can schedule spots in classes through an online app, Lasky said.

Proximity to MSU a plus, says owner

The Lansing area's population and the East Michigan Avenue space's proximity to Michigan State University make it the right place for a new HOTWORX studio, Lasky said.

"I can reach a bigger number of people and let them utilize the benefits of these workouts," he said.

Guests can purchase individual sessions for $20 or get access to an unlimited number with a membership, typically $59 per month. There's an additional one-time enrollment fee of $99. Lasky said discounted memberships are for sale before the location opens. Learn more at www.hotworx.net .
