Five area teams remain in playoff contention

Oct. 5—COLUMBUS — The Ohio High School Athletic Association released the fourth official weekly football computer ratings on Tuesday.

The weekly computer ratings are released every Tuesday beginning in the fourth week of the season, leading up to the final report on Oct. 24, when 448 schools (top 16 in each region) will officially qualify for the playoffs.

In Division IV, Region 14 continues to be filled with teams from the SBC Lake and Bay divisions in playoff contention.

State-ranked Bellevue (6-1) took a huge step toward the top seed in the region with last week's dominant 26-0 win at Perkins (5-2), which fell from first to fifth with the loss. Port Clinton (6-1) is up one spot from fourth to third, while Clyde (5-2) also moved up one spot from fifth to No. 4 following its big win over Tiffin Columbian.

All four SBC teams are currently in line to have first-round home games the weekend of Oct. 29-30.

Also in the region, Edison (3-4) is up one spot to No. 18 following last week's 48-13 win over winless Willard. The Chargers' SBC Bay rival, Huron (4-3), is up to No. 13. The two teams will play in the regular season finale on Oct. 22. Edison has a key road game this Friday at Oak Harbor (4-3), the No. 14 team in Div. V Region 18.

In Div. VI Region 22, Western Reserve (5-2) fell one spot from ninth to 10th following a 10-0 loss at St. Paul on Saturday. The Roughriders entertain Monroeville (3-4) this week in a key points game for both teams.

Three other Firelands Conference teams continue to hold a firm grip on playoff spots In Div. VII, Region 25, led by unbeaten and state-ranked St. Paul.

The Flyers (7-0) furthered their grip on the top spot in the region and are now two full points ahead of No. 2 Lucas (6-1). St. Paul is idle this week and has a monster game at Ashland Crestview (7-0), the No. 3 team in Region 22, on Oct. 16.

After snapping a three-game losing streak, Plymouth (4-3) is up one spot from 12th to No. 11 in the region following last week's 60-38 over Mapleton. The Big Red visit the state-ranked Cougars this Friday.

Monroeville (3-4) held at No. 13 following a 42-7 loss at Gibsonburg (6-1), the No. 7 team in Region 22, last Friday.

In Div. II Region 6, Olmsted Falls (5-2) is 11th among the top 16 teams. The Bulldogs are coached by Tom DeLuca, a 1999 Norwalk graduate.
