Five Below store scheduled to open on Aiken's Southside this fall

Aug. 24—A store with merchandise designed to appeal to tweens and teenagers is expected to open on Aiken's Southside in time for holiday shopping.

Five Below will begin welcoming customers this fall, according to a banner on display at the former location of Tuesday Morning in the Whiskey Road-based Aiken Exchange shopping center.

Tuesday Morning, which occupied the space between Planet Fitness and PetSmart, closed earlier this year.

David Schlessinger and Tom Vellios are the founders of the Five Below retail chain.

The first store opened in 2002 in Wayne, Pennsylvania.

Five Below's net sales were about $3.1 billion in fiscal year 2022. The chain has more than 1,300 retail outlets in more than 40 states.

Most items in Five Below stores are priced between $1 and $5. They include jewelry, toys, games, snacks, tech gadgets and room décor.

Aiken's Five Below is "now hiring," according to the banner at Aiken Exchange. Jobseekers should visit fivebelow.com.

Columbia has two Five Below stores, and Lexington has one.

There also is a Five Below retail outlet in Evans, Georgia.
