Five Berks players selected to play in Big 26 Baseball Classic

May 31—Five Berks County high school players have been selected to the Pennsylvania roster for the annual Big 26 Baseball Classic, it was announced Wednesday.

Muhlenberg's Cameron Burr, Gov. Mifflin's Bryce Detwiler, Exeter's Alex Kelsey, Berks Catholic's Parker Nein and Oley Valley's Paul Petersen were named to the team that will play in a three-game series against Maryland and participate in a combine in front of college coaches at Harrisburg's FNB Field from July 20-23.

The players were selected following a tryout May 21.

Kelsey, a junior outfielder, was selected for the second straight year. He helped the Eagles reach the quarterfinals of the District 3 Class 5A playoffs.

Burr, a junior infielder, has helped the Muhls finish fifth in District 3 Class 5A and qualify for the PIAA playoffs.

Detwiler, a sophomore infielder, was part of a Mifflin team that won the Berks championship.

Nein, a junior pitcher, helped the Saints qualify for the District 3 Class 4A playoffs.

Petersen, a junior infielder, helped the Lynx reach the District 3 Class 3A semifinals.

Kelsey, Burr, Detwiler and Petersen earned All-Berks honors this season. Nein was an all-division selection in Berks III.
