Five Black-owned businesses in Bucks County to check out now and support all year long

Black History Month — a time to acknowledge, understand and celebrate the contributions African Americans have made throughout history — also provides an opportunity to appreciate the work of local Black entrepreneurs in our own communities.

At her shop, 2 No End Vintage and More, in Bristol, owner Lava Pace sells a large selection of vintage furniture, antiques, clothing, estate jewelry, vinyl records and collectibles.

Owner Java Pace has a love for collecting unique items, and she opened 2 No End Vintage and More to share her finds. With 5,000-square-feet of space, this shop offers a large selection of antiques, vintage clothing, estate jewelry, vinyl records and collectibles, like comic books, coins and stamps.

They particularly specialize in furniture, with dozens of pieces spanning the decades, like a 1970s lime green velvet swing sofa and an art deco waterfall-style dresser from the 1940s. Wander through the store for your next unique find and be sure to check out their thrift section for affordable deals on select used pieces.

Yardley Tattoo, Yardley

With a focus on inclusivity, the artists at Yardley Tattoo pride themselves on creating a welcome and accepting space. Maximo Edward, who owns the shop with his wife, Lisa, is a versatile artist with a focus on large scale black and grey realism, neo-traditional color, floral and micro realism. With three other artists on board, Edwards said they offer a variety of styles and work closely with clients — of all skin types — to develop a trusting relationship, providing mock-ups and the opportunity to see the design before coming in.

Tattoos are done by appointment only, which should be booked one to three months in advance depending on the artist. But keep an eye out for special flash events, run in partnership with other local businesses, where walk-ins are welcome at special price. Follow them on social media, for their annual Pride Tee sale every June with proceeds benefiting The Rainbow Room, which serves LGBTQ+ youth in Bucks County.

Witherspoon Boxing & Fitness, Bristol

Open to people of all ages, Witherspoon Boxing & Fitness offers all levels of boxing, as well as Muay Thai, yoga, Zumba and strength training. The gym is owned and operated by former professional fighter, Tim Witherspoon, Jr., who comes from family of boxers, including his father, former world heavyweight champion Tim Witherspoon, Sr.

Membership is $125 a month with a six-month agreement and includes unlimited boxing classes, cardio boxing classes and Muay Thai classes. Yoga and Zumba classes can be taken at additional charge of $5 a class, and is also available to non-members. For those without a membership, boxing classes can be done on a drop-in basis at There is a also a drop in price of $20 per class.

The gym specializes in personal training, offering one-on-one instruction with a boxing coach, who work with clients on their personalized goals to bring out their inner champion.

Soul D'Lysh, Quakertown

Soul D’Lysh, owned by husband and wife team, Allysha Holmes and Keith Morris, originally started in 2017 as a food truck and catering business. But after five years of saving up and building a loyal following, the couple expanded to a brick-and-mortar restaurant in downtown Quakertown last spring.

They offer soul food dishes like jerk chicken alfredo, braised oxtail, fried fish po boy sandwiches and crispy chicken fritters. Along with sides such as baked mac and cheese, whipped sweet potatoes and braised collard greens with smoked turkey.

Mamie Colette, Newtown

Specializing in French viennoiserie, Mamie Colette brings the taste of France to Newtown. Chef Magali Henry, who worked for many bakeries in France, the Netherlands and in the U.S., wanted to share her passion for making croissants from scratch. With her partner in life and in business, Isabelle Noblanc, the two opened Mamie Colette, named after Chef Magali’s grandmother, a great inspiration in her life.

Mamie Colette’s menu includes both sweet and savory items, including buttery croissants, spinach and cheese croissants, pain au chocolate, abricotine, and cheese danishes. Coffee, tea, water, soda and French juices are also available. The bakery offers a small seating area and free Wi-Fi for those who want to hang out.
