Five candidates are running for three seats on the Willmar School Board
Aug. 17—WILLMAR
— A total of five candidates have filed for three seats on the Willmar School Board.
Incumbent Mary Amon filed Tuesday afternoon, a few hours before filing closed.
Other candidates are Steve Biesterfeld, Randy Frederickson, Jay Lawton and Laura Weatherby.
The five will be running for three four-year terms on the School Board in the Nov. 8 general election.
Amon, Frederickson and Lawton are incumbents.
Amon was first elected in a special election in 2017 and elected to a full term in 2018. Lawton was elected in 2018. Amon and Lawton are running for their second full terms. Frederickson was elected in a special election in 2021 and is running for his first full term.
Amon, of Willmar, is a physician at CentraCare — Willmar Lakeland Clinic, formerly Family Practice Medical Center.
Biesterfeld, 48, of Willmar, is a shift supervisor at Prairie Lakes Youth Programs.
Frederickson, of Willmar, is a retired Willmar Middle School science teacher and works part-time at the Wild Bird Warehouse in Willmar.
Jay Lawton, 64, of Willmar, works at Jennie-O Turkey Store in inventory control and logistics for finished goods.
Weatherby, 52, of Willmar, is a psychologist at Life Seasons in Willmar.
