Five Central players, two from Roncalli named to South Dakota All-State football teams
Seven players from Aberdeen and others from across the region have been named to the 2021 South Dakota All-State high school football teams.
In Class 11AA, five Central players High School made the team. They include Alec Voegele, Karson Carda, Brady Rohrbach, Sam Rohlfs and Parker Bauer.
In Class 11B, two Roncalli High School players, Matthew Martinez and Jackson Isakson, were honored.

TE/FB/HB: Alec Voegele, Aberdeen Central. Voegele, had 22 catches on the season for 465 yards and eight touchdowns. He also helped the Golden Eagles on defense with 18 tackles, 10 assisted tackles and five sacks.
"He has been a valuable asset to the Aberdeen Central Golden Eagle football team. A great athlete with great intelligence," Central Head Coach Scott Svendsen said. "Very diligent in getting the little things right so that the big things would happen. He not only made some fabulous catches, but he would block for us as well. He was very unselfish in this role as a tight end."

Running back: Karson Carda, Aberdeen Central. In his first season of high school football, Carda ran 192 times for 1,108 yards and nine touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 61 yards. Next season, Carda will play a big role in the Golden Eagles offense next year, Svendsen said.

Offensive line: Brady Rohrbach, Aberdeen Central. A three-year starter, Rohrbach was an "outstanding and dynamic quick tackle," Svendsen said.

Athlete: Sam Rohlfs, Aberdeen Central. Rohlfs accounted for roughly 81% of the offensive production through his dual-threat throwing and rushing the ball. On the ground, he had 63 carries for 647 yards and eight touchdowns. Through the air, he connected on 93 of his 188 attempted passes for 1,509 yards and 17 touchdowns.
"I have coached against Vince Young for three years in a row when I was coaching high school football in Texas. He comes to mind when I watch Sam Rohlfs play football. Sam has great athletic ability and works extremely hard," Svendsen said. "He's a great leader for our team, a team captain and a great competitor."
Rohlfs has been offered a full scholarship for track and field at South Dakota State University.

Defensive back: Favian Sanchez, Groton Area. Sanchez was a key player in the Groton defensive attack and has led the Tigers in interceptions the past two years. He was put in charge of covering the top receiving option for opponents. On offense, Sanchez had 210 rushing yards, five rushing touchdowns and was a threat through the air. He caught 28 passes for 330 yards and three touchdowns.

Special teams: Jackson Isakson, Aberdeen Roncalli. Isakson averaged 38 yards per punt inside the 45 yard line. Outside of the 45, he had an average of 44 yards per punt, and his longest punt of the year was 65 yards. He has been the Roncalli kicker since eighth grade and had 16 punts inside the 20 this season, with 12 of them being inside the 10-yard line.

Kaden Kurtz, Groton Area. Kurtz suffered a severe knee injury last year, but returned for Groton Area and turned in a productive offensive season. He had 120 carries for 680 yards and 11 touchdowns. He was also the quarterback and had 105 completions on 175 attempts for 1,300 passing yards, 11 touchdowns and five interceptions.
Avery Nichols, Clark/Willow Lake
Jaydon Keller, Webster. Keller had 60 carries for 241 yards and three touchdowns. Webster also used him in the passing game, and he had 16 receptions for 287 yards and five touchdowns. Keller also saw some time at quarterback and connected on eight of his 29 attempts with one passing touchdown.
"Jaydon was our main athletic weapon. He was the one opposing teams prepped for and made adjustments for. Offensively, he was our main weapon, and we tried to get him the ball as much as feasibly possible," Webster Head Coach Tanner Christensen said.

Running back: Hank Kraft, Timber Lake. Kraft had 181 rushing attempts for 1,983 yards and 24 touchdowns. He ended his high school career with 5,676 all-purpose yards and 76 career touchdowns. He was also an all-state selection last year.

Quarterback: Tray Hettick, Herreid/Selby Area. Hettick, in his second season starting, threw 109 completions on 171 attempts for 1,723 yards, 27 touchdowns and just three interceptions. The Wolverines advanced to the 9A Class state title game.

Running back: Brenden Begeman, Herreid/Selby Area. Begeman was a key part of the Herreid/Selby offense, accounting for 1,720 rushing yards with 24 touchdowns on 208 carries. The Wolverines also used him through the air, and the junior had 34 receptions for 570 yards and nine receiving touchdowns.

"Our offense came and went with Aidan Fredrickson this year. QB is not his natural position, but with an athlete like him running our offense, it added another dimension. It was very rare for him to carry the football and not make at least one (defender) miss along the way," Head Coach Jacob Skogstad said.

Quarterback: Grant Luikens, Potter County. Offensively, Luikens was a dual-threat passing and rushing. Through the air, he had 101 completions for 1,657 yards and 21 touchdowns. On the ground, he had 161 carries for 1039 yards and 22 touchdowns. Luikens started at quarterback for the Battlers since he was freshman, but missed games in his sophomore and junior years due to injuries.

He was also used in the offensive game, with 460 rushing yards and 14 rushing touchdowns. Through the air, he had 28 catches for 296 yards and six touchdowns.
