Five complete prep academic career with 4.000 GPA at PTHS
Pontiac Township High School Class of 2023 entered high school with high hopes of achievement. By the end of that first year, the Class was hit by the COVID pandemic that kept the students out of school to the end of the year.
When they came back, it was under a hybrid condition that still did not allow for the overall experience most receive during this period of life. However, a sense of traditional school-life normalcy has been experienced and now, the members of the Class of 2023 at PTHS will be walking up the steps of the stage to receive their diplomas.
Gone are the designations of valedictorian and salutatorian, which have given way to the Graduation of Distinction. Still there are five members of the Class of 2023 who achieved perfect 4.000 grade point averages for their four years of school.
The Pontiac Township High School Class of 2023 top 10 graduates with 4.000 grade point averages are Logan Barnett, Logan Brummel, Megan Henkel, Abigail Matern and Emma Nelson. The rest of the top 10 are Keegan Foster, Sydney Gragert, Andrew Pelletier, Nicholas Pelletier and Matthew Wiechmann.
The ceremony on Sunday begins at 2:30 p.m. with doors open at 1:30. The ceremony will be live streamed on www.pths.tv.
Leading the Class of 2023 will be:
Logan Barnett, son of Daniel and Julie Barnett of Pontiac, 4.000, will study at the University of Dayton, Dayton, Ohio.
Logan Brummel, son of Mark and Michele Brummel of rural Pontiac, 4.000, plans to study at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa.
Megan Henkel, daughter of daughter of Todd and Kari Henkel, Pontiac, 4.000, will attend Illinois State University, Normal.
Abigail Matern, daughter of Steven and Janet Matern of Odell, 4.000, will attend Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
Emma Nelson, daughter of Mark Nelson and Susan Hurst, Pontiac, 4.000, will study at Loras College, Dubuque, Iowa.
Sydney Gragert, daughter of Chad and Tricia Gragert of Odell, 3.982, plans to study at Illinois Wesleyan University, Bloomington.
Matthew Wiechmann, son of Martin and Katy Wiechmann, rural Pontiac, 3.982, plans to study at Heartland Community College, Normal.
Nicholas Pelletier, son of Christopher Pelletier of Pontiac, 3.974, will attend Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
Andrew Pelletier, son of Christopher Pelletier of Pontiac, 3.958, will attend Southern Illinois University, Carbondale.
Keegan Foster, son of Robert and Leslie Foster of Pontiac, 3.946, will attend Parkland College, Champaign.
