Five dates for voters to remember as the midterm election nears in Alabama

If you're already registered to vote and can make it to the polls cast ballots in the midterm election, the only date you need to remember is Nov. 8, when polls will be open across Alabama from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Otherwise, here are some dates you may need to remember to ensure you get to cast a ballot and have it counted.

Oct. 24

This is the last day to register to vote in the midterm election, or to update your voter information if you have moved. Contact the local board of registrars or visit the Alabama Secretary of State's website at www.sos.alabama.gov for more information.

Nov. 1

Mailed applications for an absentee ballot must be received by this date at the Absentee Election Manager's office. The application must include a copy of a valid photo ID or Voter ID. Mail to: Cassandra Johnson, Absentee Election Manager/Circuit Clerk, Absentee Elections, 801 Forrest Ave., Suite 202, Gadsden, AL 35901. Applications are available the AEM office in the William H. Rhea III Judicial Building or online at Alabama Votes | Alabama Secretary of State.

Nov. 3

Voters who want to cast their absentee ballot in person at the Absentee Election Manager's office have to do so by this date.

Nov. 7

Voters can hand deliver their completed ballots to the Absentee Election Manager's office through this date. No one but the voter themselves can deliver their ballot.

Nov. 8

Ballots have to get to the Absentee Election Manager's office by noon on this day — Election Day — to be counted.
