Five dead, including four children, in Batesville, Mississippi crash

Five people, including four children, were killed in Batesville, Mississippi, Tuesday night after a vehicle crashed into the barricade of a bridge and went into a creek.

The crash happened just before 10 p.m. on Curtis Road near James Road and involved just one vehicle, according to WMC Action News 5.

One passenger, 14, was able to get out of the vehicle and call 911 while five other passengers, between the ages of 12 and 19, did not survive. Panola County Sheriff’s Office Deputies said all the victims were related, WMC reported.

The victims who did not survive were Ta’Itaeipa Wenster, 19, Montraz Webster, 14, Destiny Liphford, 15, Jamerian Towns, 12, and Earl Holmes, 13.

The South Panola School District confirmed on Facebook that the five victims were current and former students and that grief counselors have been provided for "faculty, staff, and students affected by this tragic loss."
