Five desert baseball standouts named All-CIF
The high school sports season may be finished, but Coachella Valley high school baseball players collected some nice honors Wednesday. Five high school baseball standouts from the desert have been recognized on the All-CIF team.
Palm Desert senior Ty Cruz was one of 21 players honored in Division 3. Cruz, who was named the Desert Empire League’s pitcher of the year, went 9-1 this season with six complete games and an ERA of 1.14. He also tossed a no-hitter against Shadow Hills.
In Division 5, Shadow Hills junior Julian Herrera was one of 21 players named All-CIF. Herrera’s statistics were not available.
Coachella Valley sophomore Jesus Rivera was one of three desert players named All-CIF in Division 7. Rivera led his team with a .382 average and 24 RBIs. On the mound, he was 7-2 with a 2.03 ERA.
Desert Chapel senior Riley Ladanne was named All-CIF in Division 7. He batted .571 with three home runs and 25 runs.
Desert Christian Academy junior Dusty Nixon was All-CIF in Division 7. Nixon batted .507 with 29 runs and 17 RBIs.
