Here are 5 haunted houses in the Sioux Falls area to experience

Spooky season is here.

If you're in the mood for a real scare, there are several haunted house options in the Sioux Falls area. From the scares on hand, to costs and schedule, here's what you need to know.

Jaycees Feargrounds

This year, the Jaycees Feargrounds, established in 1974, will host a “Backwoods Nightmare,” theme.

The haunted house is 6,000 square feet and located in the Fine Arts building of the W.H. Lyons Fairgrounds, where it has been since 1998. Each ticket for the haunted houses goes toward Jaycee projects, including the July 4 fireworks celebration and the Holiday Gifts for Kids program, which serves more than 400 families, according to the organization’s website.

Entry fee: Tickets can be purchased online for $12 or $17 at the gate. There’s also an additional fast pass for $5. Military and first responders receive a discount with ticket prices for $11 with a valid ID. To get $1 off of the ticket price, people can bring three canned good items while purchasing tickets at the gate.

Twisted Nightmare Haunted House

The Twisted Nightmare Haunted House, a fundraiser for the South Dakota Fraternal Order of Police and Feeding South Dakota, is set to open on Oct. 13. Twisted Nightmare is located at 9700 E. SD Hwy. 42, Sioux Falls.

Schedule: The haunted house is scheduled for every weekend through Halloween. On Thursdays, the haunted house is scheduled from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Fridays and Saturdays, Twisted Nightmare is open from 7 p.m. to midnight. On Halloween, Twisted Nightmare will be open from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Entry fees: Friday and Saturday wait lines can take up to two hours, according to the website. Lines will be cut off at 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 per person or $14 with a canned food donation for Feeding South Dakota. For $30, there’s a mobile escape room and haunted house combo.

Terror 29

It’ll be a new look for the Brandon-based haunted house this year, as they now have a new home. And it’s not just one building, but two.

The business has moved closer to I-90, and was previously located on I-29, hence the name, but they don’t plan on changing it any time soon.

Terror 29 uses a timed-ticketing system, which typically takes 10-15 minutes, according to the company’s website. There are a number of tickets including general admission, along with RIP Super Pass Tickets and TERROR Pass, which skip the lines.

Schedule: Terror 29 started in 2019 by owner Zac Tenneboe, and is open every weekend in October. On Thursday, Terror 29 is open from 7 p.m., to 10:30 p.m., on weekends, the business is open from 7 p.m., until 11 p.m.

Entry fee: General admission tickets cost $15, while the RIP Fast Pass costs $21 on opening weekend. Full ticketing information can be found on the company’s website.

Haunted Farm

In its eighth year, the Haunted Farm will debut new scares and have added a room.

It’s located three miles south of Harrisburg, located at 47449 276th St., Worthing. Along with haunts, there are hayrides, baby animals and a trail. For events at Haunted Farm, take a look at its Facebook page.

Schedule: Haunted Farm opens on Oct. 7, and is open from 7 p.m., to 10 p.m., every Friday and Saturday.

Entry fee: Ticket prices are $23 for five attractions or $10 for three.

Fear Asylum

If you don’t mind a drive, Fear Asylum, in Brookings, is serving up real scares.

This year, “South Dakota’s largest budget haunted attraction,” will be centered on an asylum.

Schedule: Fear Asylum is open every Friday and Saturday from Oct. 8 through the 30, from 7 p.m. to 11. The asylum is open from 7 p.m., to 10:30 p.m., on Oct. 21, Oct. 28 and Oct. 31.

Entry fee: Tickets can be purchased online, through the company’s website. Fear Asylum is located at 216 6th St. W., in Brookings.
