Five Lake County cities are having elections on Nov. 7. Here's what we know

Five cities are having elections on Tuesday, Nov. 7: Lady Lake, Clermont, Mascotte, Minneola, and Tavares.

Here's a look

Max Krzyminski and Chandra L. Myers square off in the race for City Council Seat 4.

Lady Lake

Jim Rietz is running against Mike Sage for Town Commission Ward 5.

Mascotte

Mascotte’s election for City Council Seat 5 features Randy L. Brasher and Sharee Hodge.

Minneola

Monica Luna and Pam Serviss are seeking to fill the Seat 1 position for City Council. Two others, Nathan Focht and Pat Kelley, are running for the Seat 3 position. Three candidates are competing for Seat 5: Juana Delacruz, Kelly Price, and Joseph Saunders.

Sandy Gamble and Doug Keown are running for Seat 2 on the City Council.

Clermont ballot question

Clermont voters also will be voting on an ordinance to change the length of council terms and term limits.

Currently, council members serve two-year terms with a maximum of four consecutive terms. A yes vote for this amendment, effective with the elections in November of 2024 and 2026, approves increasing council terms to four years, with council members elected in November 2025 serving a one-year term, and reduces term limits to three consecutive terms.

A no vote rejects the amendment.

Minneola ballot questions

Currently, annual City Council elections are staggered two-year terms of office. The proposed amendment increases the term from two to four years and provides staggered four-year terms of office.

If the amendment is approved, Council seats 1, 3, and 5 shall be filled for a four-year term starting in November 2026 and seats 2 and 4 shall be filled for a four-year term starting in November 2024.

Ballot question No. 2 deals with term limits.

Currently, there are no term limits for City Council seats. The proposed amendment provides a term limit of eight years and 60 days beginning after the November 2023 election, and allows further eligibility for one additional maximum of eight years and 60 days after sitting out for a four-year period.

The proposed amendment allows appointing someone who has already served the maximum term limit to fill a City Council vacancy.
