Five last-minute Mother's Day suggestions in Akron to show mom you love her

So... the whole creating papier-mâché hands of the kids in the form of a heart didn't exactly work out.

And it's probably too late to knit together a potholder.

Don't despair, there's still plenty of last-minute options to make mom feel special this Mother's Day.

Akron's Krispy Kreme has specially decorated donuts and Malley's Chocolate is bringing back its freshly dipped strawberries.

And Akron-based Acme Fresh Market is baking up special rosette cakes and half pies for the special day.

Several Greater Akron attractions are offering events to celebrate mom and many area restaurants are serving up special meals for Sunday.

The Akron Zoo is offering free admission to all moms from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.

In addition to all the exhibits the zoo has to offer, Kona Ice will be set up on the grounds selling shaved ice treats to guests.

Visit Akron's historic Stan Hywet Hall

Akron's historic Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens is offering free admission to moms on Mother's Day.

All mothers will receive free self-guided tour tickets of the Manor House and gardens.

This year's theme inside of the home is Connections: Love & The Ties that Bind that explores the family dynamics of the Seiberlings who helped create The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

And for last-minute gifts, the estate's Molly's Shop will be open.

Birdwatching in the Summit Metro Parks

The Summit Metro Parks will host a Birding with Mom program on Sunday.

Participants will gather at 10 a.m. in the Tuscarawas Meadows Area off Harrington Road to take a stroll along the 1.1-mile Redwing Trail to look for birds.

Participants are encouraged to bring along a pair of binoculars.

Coffee and tea will be available after the hike.

Take mom to a movie

You can always take mom to see a movie.

While it is not exactly the feel-good-mom movie of all time, the Nightlite Cinema in downtown Akron is bringing back the classic "Mommie Dearest" film.

The 1981 film explores the complicated relationship actress Joan Crawford had with her two adopted children.

Treat mom to dinner out

The best gift you could probably give mom is a nice lunch or dinner out.

Restaurants all over Greater Akron are expecting long lines on Sunday and offering special menus and treats for moms.

Akron's downtown restaurants are also ready for the big day.

The Downtown Akron Partnership is encouraging folks to phone ahead to make reservations to ensure there's a table available for mom.

The BLU Social and the El Patron Tequileria & Cuisine (with its bottomless mimosa) are both hosting special Mother's Day brunches.

Akronym Brewing and NOMZ are also hosting brunches.

And the Spaghetti Warehouse is giving moms who dine on Sunday a buy one, get one free entrée card for their next visit.
