Five people injured in Galveston bike rally shooting

Nov. 5—Five people were shot during Galveston's annual Lone Star Bike Rally Saturday night.

The five wounded were taken to an area trauma center for treatment, according to the police.

A social media post by the Galveston Police Department stated the shots were fired around 11 p.m. within the Lone Star Rally event in the 2100 block of The Strand.

A person of interest has been detained, but no arrest had been made as of Sunday morning.

There is no word yet on what led to the shooting and the incident is still under investigation, with the street closed between 21st to 23rd Streets.

The social media post made by Galveston PD reported there are motorcycles and other property in that area that must remain in place until the investigation is complete.

Police are working as quickly as possible to conduct a thorough investigation.

According to its website, the Lone Star Rally, is the biggest rally of the year in Texas. The annual four day bike rally that features live music, bike shows, contests, rides, vendors and military tributes, is being held Thursday, Nov. 2 through Sunday, Nov. 5 on Galveston Island.

Over 400,000 people were expected to be in attendance for the 2023 rally this weekend.
