Five people taken to hospital after Jeep crashes into Tuscaloosa restaurant

Five people were taken to DCH Regional Medical Center on Sunday after a Jeep crashed into the front of La Gran Fiesta restaurant off Alabama Highway 69 S, according to Tuscaloosa police.

The driver of the Jeep left the scene of the crash and collided with two vehicles near the traffic circle by Englewood Elementary, police said.

Officers with the Tuscaloosa Police Department and Tuscaloosa County sheriff's deputies took the Jeep driver into custody.  He is expected to face multiple charges, police said.

Investigators believe the Jeep driver intentionally struck the building.

A sixth person who was in the restaurant at the time of the crash was later taken to DCH to receive treatment related to stress.

The crash occurred at 5:34 p.m., according to police.
