We haven't sold you on subscribing to the South Shore Sports Report yet? Fine, here's five more reasons to give us a little spot in your inbox.

ANALYSIS

Nobody has the South Shore covered the way we do. Here, try us with a quick logo quiz:

Brockton - Boxers (too easy)

Quincy - Presidents (duh)

Abington - Green Wave (maybe we should write a story explaining this one)

Rising Tide - Herons (that's a tough one)

(I understand this exercise might seem fraudulent as I hand-picked all the schools while also having access to Google, but you'll have to take me at my word for my party trick.)

During the season, we have four South Shore Top 10 bi-weekly rankings. This winter we had the ups and downs of all of the boys and girls basketball and hockey teams in the area covered. Eric McHugh's Top 10 girls hockey rankings are especially informative (we sports reporters love our nuggets, and there are plenty in there).

Before the season and during the season we highlight all the names you'll need to know. And what would Mass March Madness be without 20 Steph Curry candidates.

BIG STORIES WITH LOCAL TIES

We don't cover just prep sports around here. And with good reason -- a lot of our local stars go on to do big things at the collegiate and professional level.

Just this month, three South Shore natives were vying for Olympic hockey gold with the men's team in Beijing. Greg Dudek had all the local angles covered from Norwell native Drew Commesso's record-setting debut, Hingham's Matty Beniers' unforgettable year and Marshfield's David Warsofsky accomplishing a dream he thought was no longer possible.

Dudek's best Olympic story came from someone who wasn't there. Hingham's Alice Merryweather has been through a ton of adversity of late and we chronicled her ups and downs. After reading this story, it's impossible not to root for Merryweather.

We also learned that the South Shore is now known for ... bobsledding? Pembroke's Kris Horn, a relative newcomer to the sport, was there in Beijing competing.

America's big game? Yeah, the South Shore has ties to that, too. Abington's Jim Rourke recounted the tale of his team with the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl XXIII.

As we're about to turn our calendars to March, there's plenty of local talent to keep an eye on in the midst of the Madness. Braintree's Nick Timberlake has had an up-and-down career at Towson, but now his squad is in the mix to be a Cinderella come bracket season.

SCORES, STATS AND RANKINGS

The foundation of any sports section is the answer to a simple question - who won that game?

We've got that covered every night when it comes to the area high schools. Our daily roundups have all the scores, plus some of the biggest highlights of the night. We have five player of the week polls every week highlighting the area's top performers.

And when the MIAA updates the tournament rankings, we're right there to pass that info along.

STORIES THAT GO BEYOND THE SIDELINES

Yes, a buzzer-beater always makes for a great story. But the stories we really enjoy telling are the ones our readers might not know about. This community, and the high school sports world, is filled with outstanding individuals we enjoy shining a little light on.

Everybody in the South Shore sports world knows Jim Dolan. But maybe you didn't know how much his players love playing for him.

You probably have heard of North Quincy sophomore basketball stars Orlagh Gormley and Daithi Quinn. But I bet you didn't know all this (they're the offspring of Irish immigrants, they're unselfish, and they're already captains).

Maybe you know about Brockton's Azar Swain, but did you know how big of a role his dad played in his hoops career?

WE LOVE COVERING OUR COMMUNITY

In my opinion, this is our biggest selling point. You can tell how much we enjoy covering by how much we write about.

This month I've written over 1,400 words about a great basketball game. Not enough for you? How about over 1,500 words on one shot? (It was a pretty darn good shot). It's like that for everyone on the staff. There's thousands of great sports photos from Marc Vasconcellos, Robin Chan and Greg Derr.

Jason Snow does it all, from writing, photography to occasional Scott Van Pelt impressions.
