Five Rivers Health Centers opens new building in Dayton; Hopes to be ‘one-stop shop’ for patients

Five Rivers Health Centers will be opening a brand new building in Dayton.

The Edgemont campus will be located on Miami Chapel Road in Dayton.

The new building will combine four other centers under one roof.

Gina McFarlane-El the Chief Executive Officer of Five Rivers Health Centers said it will provide primary care to everyone.

“We serve patients regardless of their ability to pay,” McFarlane-El told News Center 7′s Kayla McDermott.

Dayton Mayor Jeffery Mims agreed.

“We’ll have a lot of discretionary income,” he said.

The building will hold some of the best technology thanks to an approximate $31 million budget from tax credits, savings and donations.

Five Rivers calls the building state of the art, providing multiple services from medical and dental care to behavioral health.

The center hopes to house some of the most up-to-date technology.

Dr. Mamle Anim showed a “negative pressure room” that sucks out the air to provide an extra layer or protection against airborne illnesses — like COVID-19.

Since Five Rivers Health Centers was established in 2011, it has acted as a learning center for medical residents from Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine.

At the new building, McFarlane-El said it will have internal medicine residents, obstetrics and gynecology residents as well as family medicine residents and nurse practitioners students.

“In total, we have more residents that are in a federally qualified health center than anyone else has in the nation,” McFarlane-El said.

She said this is the highlight of her career, next to being named CEO.

“I’m just excited to show it off to everyone,” she said.

McFarlane-EL said the facility is now open to the public and can host at least 30,000 patients across the Miami Valley.

She said opening the building is one of the highlights of her career.

Not only does McFarlane-El hope that patients will receive top care here but a place for medical professionals to receive a great education.
