Five school districts to hold elections

Dec. 13—When filings closed a week ago for the annual public schools' Board of Education elections in Rogers County, not a single candidate had filed for the Oologah-Talala vacant seat.

In fact, counting Oologah, eight open board seats had uncontested filings — meaning no candidate, or only one candidate, filed a candidacy application with the County Election Board.

Sitting O-T Board members will now be required to appoint a member to fill the vacant seat. The appointed member must live within the district and meet all candidate qualifications.

The only district requiring a primary election will be Chelsea Public Schools. Three candidates filed for Seat 4. Voters will decide the top two or a single winner during run-off elections on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024.
