Five schools across Louisiana received similar school threats back-to-back

Five schools across Louisiana received back-to-back bomb threats. All were determined hoaxes.

Houma Junior High School received a bomb threat at 12:50 p.m. that, after investigations, Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office determined was not a credible threat. Houma Junior High was the third school in a series of related incidents in numerous other parishes which included: Baton Rouge Magnet School about noon, Bossier Elementary School at 12:26 p.m., Morgan City High School at 1 p.m. and W. S. Lafargue at 2:54 p.m.

A spokesman with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff's Office said the call was placed to a tip line that the department would not disclose because it is actively being investigated in conjunction with the Louisiana State Police.

Terrebonne Parish Superintendent Bubba Orgeron said the threat involved explosives and weapons.

"I heard this second hand, but the threat involved explosives in the school and also someone with weapons outside the school who could see the perimeter of the school," Orgeron said. "It has to be said the sheriff's office did a phenomenal job of keeping us safe and informed."

Orgeron's description of the threat was very similar to that of Bossier City Police Department PIO Louis Johnson.

According to Johnson, their threat mentioned a threat of suicide, that a bomb would be involved, and that multiple other weapons also would also be involved.

According to other officials in the Bossier City Police Department, the threat at Bossier Elementary School was the second threat of its type this year. The previous call occurred in January or February and used a scrambler to mask the number that called in the threat. It, too, was determined a hoax.

The Louisiana State Police Fusion Center is working in coordination with other fusion centers in the nation to share intelligence information, a spokesman with the LSP said. At this time, these threats appear to be hoaxes.
