Five Shepherd football standouts earn Super Region One honors

Five members of the Shepherd University football team were named to the 2022 D2CCA All-Super Region One Team.

Senior quarterback Tyson Bagent was awarded the region's Offensive Player of the Year honors for the second consecutive season.

Bagent, the 2021 Harlon Hill winner who is one of nine finalists for the honor this season, has completed 71 percent of his passes for 4,184 yards, both marks leading the nation (Division II). His 37 passing touchdowns rank fourth in the country, his 27.9 completions per game rank second and his 330.8 yards of total offense per game rank fifth. Bagent holds the NCAA Division II records for most career passing yards (16,638), most total offense (16,865) and most passing touchdowns (155).

Joining Bagent as Super Region One first-team selections were junior running back Ronnie Brown, senior offensive lineman Joey Fisher (Clear Spring), senior tight end Brian Walker and senior defensive end Kyle Smith.

Brown was a first-team choice as a running back. He has rushed 175 times for 1,553 yards and 16 touchdowns, and has grabbed 50 receptions for 530 yards and four scores. He also has 16 kickoff returns for 448 yards and a touchdown.

Fisher, a finalist for the Gene Upshaw Award, anchors an offensive line that helps Shepherd rank second in total offense (508.5), second in total first downs (272), third in passing offense (334.1) and fifth in scoring offense (43.1).

Walker has 56 grabs for 730 yards and four touchdowns this season.

Smith has 50 tackles (30 solos) and leads the Rams with 19 tackles-for-loss (totaling minus-107 yards) and 13 sacks. He also has an interception return for a touchdown, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick.
