Five stories you may have missed last week

From Executive Editor Paul D'Ambrosio:

Good morning! I hope you had a pleasant week.

Your subscription to the Asbury Park Press supports some of the best investigative reporting in the nation. I'm pleased to tell you that the Press was honored TWICE Thursday night by one of the most prestigious journalism organizations in the nation.

The New York City Deadline Club award for Newspaper Reporter went to Kayla Canne, for her investigation of low-income housing discrimination. In addition, the Beat Reporting award went to former Press staffer Andrew Ford (who is still with the company at the Arizona Republic) and ProPublica. Both worked to expose the multi-million-dollar windfalls hidden in New Jersey police contracts. Kayla's and Andrew's stories not only exposed violations of the law and abuses of your tax dollars, but they laid out framework for reform.
