Five stories you may have missed last week

From Executive Editor Paul D'Ambrosio:

Good morning! I hope you had a pleasant week.

The Asbury Park Press not only brings you deep-dive investigations at the Shore but gives you easy access to search the raw data. Our story on a shocking change in home buying patterns - "A corporate homebuying boom is pricing you out of NJ: 'You can't compete with investors’" - is posted below but first let me tell you how we got the story. Investigations editor Stephen Stirling and business reporter Michael L. Diamond analyzed millions of home sales from 2012 through 2022 to uncover the high-volume growth of private corporations buying up family homes. This all means ordinary families, couples and singles are being shut out of the market as the corps push home prices up and inventory down.

The story package comes complete with a searchable database that lets you look at your town to see how entrenched corp. ownership is, plus interactive maps so you can easily visualize the changes over time in the hardest hit towns. The stellar presentation was built by digital web producer Jack McLoone, with videos by Doug Hood, Ryan Ross and Tom Costello.
