Adolis Garcia is in his fourth year with the Texas Rangers and the two-time all-star has blossomed into one of the MLB’s best sluggers over the past three seasons. Garica has helped lead the Rangers to an American League Championship Series victory for the first time in over a decade.

Garica was selected as the ALCS MVP for his performance against the Astros. Garcia batted .357 with five home runs and 15 RBIs in the ALCS.

Here are six things you might not know about the Rangers slugger, a 30-year-old who defected from his native Cuba in 2016:

1. Garcia’s nickname, El Bombi, was given to him as a youth. He received the nickname from a childhood friend. The name has nothing to do with Garcia’s proficiency to hit bombs, but because his friend thought his head looked like a light bulb.

2. Garcia set an American League Championship record on Monday during Game 7 against the Houston Astros. Garcia set the MLB record for most RBIs in a league championship series (14) surpassing the previous mark set by fellow Ranger, Nelson Cruz.

3. Garcia’s brother Adonis also played in the Major Leagues with the Atlanta Braves from 2015-2017. Adonis’ best season came in 2016 when he batted .273 with 14 home runs and 65 RBIs.

4. Originally signed by St. Louis in 2017, the Cardinals designated him for assignment in 2019. The Rangers picked him up. However, it took him a while to make an impact in the Rangers’ organization. In fact, the Rangers designated him for assignment in 2021 before re-signing him to a minor league contract and inviting him to spring training.

5. Garcia is the godfather of Tampa Bay Rays all-star Randy Arozarena’s daughter. The two met in the minor leagues when they played in the St Louis Cardinals organization.

6. Garcia made MLB history on April 22 when he went 5-for-5 with three home runs and two doubles. Garcia ended the game with eight RBIs, five runs and 16 total bases becoming only the third player in MLB history to compile those numbers.
