Five things to do this weekend in Greater Akron from Pride Festival to arts in Hudson

This weekend once again offers a variety of things to do in and around Akron.

Downtown Akron will be the center of it all − on Saturday at least − as some 20,000 people are expected at the Pride Festival and thousands more for a nighttime baseball game at Canal Park.

The skies in downtown Akron will be lit up with fireworks after Thursday, Friday and Saturday night's baseball games.

Here is a sampling of things to do this weekend in Greater Akron.

Akron Pride Festival

Some 20,000 or so people are expected in downtown Akron for annual Pride Festival.

The festivities will start at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Equity March along South Main Street from the Spaghetti Warehouse to Lock 3 where the event will kick off.

A portion of South Main Street will remain closed in and around Lock 3 for vendors and food trucks.

The annual event features musical acts at Lock 3 along with music at Cascade Plaza and performers outside of the Akron Public Library.

The free event will end with fireworks around 10 p.m. Saturday night.

Circus stops at fairgrounds

The circus is in town.

The Garden Brothers "Nuclear" Circus − billed as the nation's longest continuously run circus − will be at the Summit County Fairgrounds through Sunday night.

The circus features a big top with some 60 performers and three rings.

There are several shows offered daily.

Tickets range from as little as $14.50 to $60.

Old fashioned horsepower

Hale Farm and Village will host a Horse to Engine event on Saturday.

Visitors to historic farm and village in Bath will learn how working on the farm has evolved over the years.

There will be hand's on activities along with reenactors to show what life was like back in the 19th Century.

All the activities are included with a general admission ticket.

RubberDucks at Canal Park

The Akron RubberDucks have a weekend homestand against the Richmond Flying Squirrels.

On Saturday, the minor league team will be honoring "the future Super Bowl LVII Champions" at Canal Park.

The team will be giving away former Cleveland Browns player Eric Metcalf Bobbleheads to the first 1,000 fans.

There will be fireworks after the games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Sunday is family day with pregame catch on the field, a kids stampede after the fifth inning and a post game running of the bases.

Art show in Hudson

The Hudson Art on the Green has moved onto new greener pastures this year.

The fine arts and crafts show and sale is in its 40th year and is being held at new location this year.

The show will be held Saturday and Sunday at JOANN Fabric's corporate headquarters at the corner of state Route 91 and Terex Road.

This year's event will feature some 140 artists.
