Each week, the Banner-Herald will publish a list of five options for things to do in the Athens area. Though there's never a shortage of concerts, theater and other art happenings in the Classic City, we've chosen to spotlight these events for the weekend of May 12-14.

Love Your Mother

WHERE: The Prince Market at Bottleworks (297 Prince Ave.)

WHEN: May 13 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. (Free admission)

DETAILS: The first-ever Prince Market event will feature local vendors, makers and more with tables and booth lined up on the sidewalks in the Bottleworks mixed-use area. This will be a great opportunity to shop local for one-of-a-kind Mother's Day gifts or unique goods to stash away for the holiday season.

Bears' Birthday

WHERE: Bear Hollow Zoo at Memorial Park (293 Gran Ellen Dr.)

WHEN: May 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (Free admission)

DETAILS: The Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department will host a special birthday party for Bear Hollow Zoo’s resident bears ‒ Athena, DJ and Yonah. Guests are invited to join and watch the bears unwrap their presents and enjoy their cake. Activities include signing the bears' birthday card, crafting, and "ambassador" animal encounters.

Spooky: Can't wait for Halloween? This Athens festival will celebrate all things dark and spooky.

Hauntfest Mayhem

DETAILS: Celebrate Halloween in May at this all-night festival of all things spooky and ooky. Event includes vendors, antiques, concessions, live music, activities and contests. Costumes are strongly encouraged, and there will be "scare actors" lurking about the premises for the duration of the festival. Visit hauntfest.us for tickets.

Winterville Annual Marigold Festival

WHERE: Pittard Park (125 N. Church St. in Winterville)

WHEN: May 13 from 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. (Free admission)

Family Day: The Five Senses

WHERE: Georgia Museum of Art (90 Carlton St. in the UGA Performing and Visual Arts Complex)

WHEN: May 13 from 10 a.m. to noon (Free admission)
