Things to do this weekend: Parade of Lights highlights holiday calendar

It's another busy weekend in Sioux Falls, highlighted by the annual Parade of Lights, which kicks off Friday night.

On Saturday, small businesses will open up and offer special deals to customers. There's also a fun run, a free concert and a trunk show.

Here's what's going on throughout Siouxland this weekend.

Parade of Lights

It'll be the 30th year of the Parade of Lights this Friday.

The parade starts at 7:30 p.m., with festive decorations and lights. There will be more than 60 floats in the parade with six awards on the line. Street closures will begin at 5:15 p.m., and Phillips Avenue will close at 6:45 p.m. Parking downtown is free starting at 5 p.m. Friday.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony 2022

A 45-foot Christmas tree will be lit at the Washington Pavilion on Friday evening outside the corner of 11th Street and Main Avenue.

There will be live music, free cookies and hot cocoa on deck. Entertainment and refreshments will start at 5:45 p.m., while the tree lighting starts at 6:25.

The Hegg Brothers

Inside the historic courtroom of the Old Courthouse Museum, The Hegg Brothers will put on a free performance during the lunch hour.

It's the first Old Courthouse Museum Winter Concert Series of the year. Concerts will be held at the Old Courthouse Museum every Friday through Feb. 24.

Small Business Saturday

While Black Friday might be a popular day for big box stores, Saturday is also filled with deals.

On Small Business Saturday, participating downtown Sioux Falls retailers, restaurants, bars and shops will be open and offering special deals. Small Business Saturday was first observed in 2010.

Sioux Falls Jingle Bell Run

Fawick Park will host the annual Arthritis Foundation's Jingle Bell Run. There will be a 5K fun run and a 1-mile walk at the event.

Attendees are asked to wear holiday costumes. The run is to raise awareness and funds to support arthritis research for better treatments and a cure. The event will be held from 8:30 to 10 a.m. on Saturday.

Prairie Artisan Fragrances Trunk Show

A week-long trunk show will start on Saturday inside Threads by Simply Perfect.

The event will kick off at 10 a.m., and will feature more than 15 fragrances, which can make a good Christmas gift. The event will be held at 401 E. Eighth St. in Sioux Falls.
