HOLLAND — For visitors looking to lodge close to downtown shopping and dining, five freshly unveiled short-term vacation rentals might hit the spot.

More: Renovations nearly complete on former Karla's Place, Holland Clock Co.

The two-story rentals are located in "The George" and "The Evelyn" — recently renovated buildings at 17 and 21 E. Eighth St. Originally completed in 1884, the two-story buildings were stripped down to exterior brick walls in the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic.

During the build-out, a third floor was added. Commercial spaces on the ground floors, once home to Karla's Place, Holland Clock Co. and Eighth Street Salon, have been refilled by boutiques The Poppy Peach and Laurel and Jack.

The rentals themselves range from one-bedroom, one-bathroom to two-bedroom, two-bathroom, with square footages from 800-1,800. Each condo includes a full kitchen, laundry and private outdoor entertaining spaces, plus a reserved private parking space on-site.

For a three-night stay in July, the smallest of the five condos in "The George" and "The Evelyn" goes for $1,447 — $408 per night, plus a $140 cleaning fee and $82 in lodging taxes.

While the main focus of construction was to create short-term rental units, ownership is open to long-term stays, preferably in the off-season between November and April. The condos require mobility to climb stairs.

At their cheapest, the rentals range from $225 per night to $450 per night, according to thegeorgeandevelynon8th.com. Currently, a three-night stay in July in the smallest rental (designed for four guests) is listed at $1,447 — $408 per night plus a $140 cleaning fee and $82 lodging tax.

Those rates drop down in September, but minimum stay lengths are longer (six nights, versus three). The rentals are also available to book on Airbnb, but ownership recommends booking directly on the official website to save money on fees.
