Five York-Adams football players earn prestigious honor from Maxwell Club

The Maxwell Football Club released its list of Mini Max award winners for the 2022 season Monday, and five YAIAA seniors football players made the list.

The players to earn the honor were Central York center Danny Pham, Dover running back/safety Gavin Mullins, Red Lion linebacker/fullback Isaac Earnest, York High quarterback Sam Stoner and York Suburban running back/safety Mikey Bentivegna.

They were among 55 players honored from Pennsylvania. Players selected compete in the eastern part of the state and are nominated by coaches . They are selected based on academics, community service and on-field performance.

The Maxwell Football Club will select one of the 55 players as its Pennsylvania Player of the Year. The winner will be announced Feb. 5.

The Maxwell Club also selects a Player of the Year from New Jersey and Delaware. Its regional Player of the Year from the three states, the Jim Henry Award, will also be announced Feb. 5.

The Maxwell Club was founded in 1935 and regularly honors high school, college and professional football players.

A 6-foot-1, 290-pound center, Pham was considered the top offensive lineman in the YAIAA. He helped Central York average 40 points per game and rack up more than 4,400 total offensive yards during a 10-2 division-championship season. He has a Division I FCS offer from St. Francis and Division II offers from Gannon and Clarion.

Mullins led Dover to a 9-3 record and its first playoff win since 2013 a year after the Eagles went 1-9. Mullins rushed 1,238 yards on 200 carries, caught 32 passes for 426 yards and scored 14 total touchdowns. He also had 95 tackles and four interceptions on defense.

The 5-foot-11, 192-pound Earnest had 96 tackles, one sack and four fumble recoveries on defense. On offense, he carried the ball 54 times for 332 yards, caught 11 passes for 159 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Stoner completed 68% of his passes for 2,051 yards, 25 touchdowns and six interceptions for a 6-4 Bearcats team. He also rushed for four more touchdowns. He finished his career as York High's all-time leader in passing yards and touchdowns. He has accepted a preferred walk-on offer from West Virginia.

A 5-foot-9 running back, Bentivegna put up the most jaw-dropping stats in the YAIAA. He rushed for 2,385 carries on 244 carries. He caught 27 passes for 431 yards and registered 449 return yards. That adds up to an insane 3,265 all-purpose yards. He also scored 38 total touchdowns and started at safety for the Trojans.

Bentivegna led Suburban to a 7-5 record and has offers to play football from Division I FCS St. Francis and Division II Seton Hill.
