Fla-Ga? Ga-Fla? Here's what you need to know for the big game in Jacksonville

The RVs will be here any minute now and, before you know it, the streets of downtown Jacksonville will be flooded with red-and-black or orange-and-blue as Bulldog and Gator fans arrive for one of college football's great traditions.

Florida and Georgia have been facing off in Jacksonville since 1933 (except for World War II and a pair of games in the mid-'90s when the stadium was being rebuilt). There have been blowouts and nail-biters, a tie and some genuine classics in there. Georgia, the defending national champions, won last year's game, 34-7.

Is it Georgia-Florida or Florida-Georgia this year?

The Georgia Bulldogs are the home team this year and its fans will sit on the west side of the stadium, so it's the Georgia-Florida game. Because it's a neutral-site game, the teams alternate each year and the name of the event flip-flops.

What time is the game?

Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 29.

Can I bring my dog?

Nope. Other than service animals, Uga is the only animal permitted in the stadium. Other prohibited items include bags or purses larger than 12-by-6-by-12 inches, coolers, strollers, umbrellas, outside food or beverages, seat cushions, audio/video recorders, whistles, noisemakers, laser pointers, air horns, knives, guns or explosives. There is no smoking inside TIAA Bank Field.

When does RV City open?

Fans will start showing up at 8 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 25 at TIAA Bank Field Lot E for RV City, which is always worth visiting if only to see how fanatical some people can get about their favorite college football team.

When do parking lots open?

TIAA Bank Field lots open at 8 a.m.

When do gates open?

Fans can begin entering the stadium at 1:30 p.m.

How do I get to the stadium?

If you don't already have a pass for the stadium parking lots, you're probably too late to get one, but there is plenty of parking available within walking distance. The Jacksonville Transportation Authority Gameday Xpress shuttle bus will run between the stadium and lots at Wingate Park in Jacksonville Beach, Philips Highway at J. Turner Butler Boulevard and the Kings Avenue Parking Garage. $10-$15 roundtrip. The St. Johns River Taxi will offer $20 round trips on the day of the game.

How do I watch the game on TV?

The game will be carried live on CBS.

What events are going on around the game?

• The Georgia-Florida Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony and Luncheon is at noon Friday, Oct. 28 in the East Club at TIAA Bank Field. Bulldogs John Little and Champ Bailey and Gators Andre Caldwell and Trey Burton will be inducted. $60.

• The Georgia-Florida Fall Exhibition Baseball Game is scheduled for 6:30 Friday, Oct. 28 at 121 Financial Ballpark, which is in the sports complex near the stadium. $15. Fireworks will follow the game.

• Fan Fare will be held Saturday, Oct. 29 in the flex field facility behind the stage at Daily's Place. They'll have cornhole games, a Hall of Fame exhibit, 3-on-3 football games and other activities. It's open from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Saturday and you don't need a ticket to the game to get in. Free.

We always loved hanging out at the Jacksonville Landing. What time does the party start there?

Well, never. The Landing was always a popular spot during Fla-Ga weekend, but the riverfront center closed in 2019 and has since been razed.

Hey, didn't there used to be an overpass right there?

The ramp leading from downtown to the Hart Bridge over the St. Johns River was taken down to make way for a planned development on the riverfront. Drivers heading toward the stadium on Bay Street will also notice traffic-pattern changes.

"Beyond Van Gogh," a high-tech show that projects many of Vincent Van Gogh's best-known works onto the walls, floors and visitors, is showing just a few miles from TIAA Bank Field, at the NoCo Center, 712 N. Hogan St. Keep in mind, though, that you have to buy tickets online for specific time blocks, and many of the good ones are sold out.
